What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
We are committed to recognising and nurturing high potential and gifted students, ensuring every student can thrive at our school.
Every child has Personalised Learning Plan developed in consultation with the student, their parent/carers and teachers. Part of this Plan is the identification of potential and realised areas of high potential across the intellectual, physical, creative and socio-emotional domains.
Staff regularly use differentiated tasks within their programming and teaching that adjust pace, tasks and complexity.
Flexible groupings for collaborative ideation and presentation, targeted learning goals, and strengths-based feedback is used to cater to individual learning profiles.
Our staff regularly engage in professional development to ensure the most current research-based practices are being used.

Our Enrichment Partnerships with universities deepen our students’ intellectual curiosity while developing innovation and collaboration.
The Representative School Sport Pathway and PSSA events enable our students to trial and compete in sports at regional, state and national levels, fostering discipline, commitment and collaboration.
Our mentoring programs connect our students with trusted adults to build confidence, motivation, and interpersonal skills
Glenroi Heights proudly partners with Aurora College. Remote opportunity classes cater for academically gifted Year 5 and Year 6 students with high potential. These classes help students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, using specialised teaching methods and educational materials at the appropriate level. Placement in the Aurora College Opportunity Class allows students to access a challenging academic program students to access a challenging academic program without the need to leave their local school.
Home reading Challenge
The Home Reading Challenge at Glenroi Heights Public School encourages students to develop a love of reading while building consistency and stamina. Each week, students aim to read for 15–30 minutes each night, recording the title of their book and the time spent reading. After completing 30 nights of reading, students are rewarded with a FREE book, celebrating their commitment and effort. This program fosters curiosity, enjoyment of literature, and a lifelong love of reading for all participants.
Academic Competitions
The Newcrest English and Mathematics Competitions give students the chance to extend their learning beyond the classroom and challenge themselves in a supportive, competitive environment. Focusing on problem-solving, critical thinking, and literacy skills, these competitions encourage students to apply knowledge creatively while developing persistence, analytical thinking, and a commitment to excellence. The experience celebrates achievement and fosters confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning for all participants
The Premier’s Sporting Challenge
The Premier’s Sporting Challenge (PSC) encourages students to participate in sport and physical activity, promoting healthier, more active lifestyles. This multi-faceted program offers a variety of initiatives for students and teachers across the Department of Education, providing opportunities to develop skills, teamwork, and perseverance. By engaging in PSC activities, students build confidence, enjoy physical activity, and embrace the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle.
School Swimming
The school swimming program at Glenroi Heights Public School helps students develop essential water safety skills and confidence in and around the water. Delivered by qualified instructors each term, lessons focus on swimming techniques, endurance, and survival skills in a fun and supportive environment. Students of all abilities are encouraged to participate, set personal goals, and build confidence as they progress. This program supports student wellbeing while providing a positive and active learning experience for all participants.
School Sporting Grant
The Sporting Schools program at Glenroi Heights Public School provides students with diverse and engaging opportunities to be active, build skills, and develop confidence. In 2025, the school introduced Pickleball and partnered with Central West Gym Sports to give students access to inclusive, skill-building physical activities. These programs enhance the PE curriculum, strengthen fundamental movement skills, and encourage students to explore new ways to stay active. Sporting Schools funding supports coaching, equipment, and program delivery, ensuring all students can participate safely and enjoyably.
Dance Groups
The Indigenous dance groups at Glenroi Heights Public School proudly represented the school at NAIROC, sharing culture and heritage through traditional movement, rhythm, and storytelling. Their performance celebrated identity, connection, and community pride while reflecting the strength and unity of the school. Through dance, students shared stories of Country, ancestors, and resilience, inspiring audiences and highlighting the importance of preserving and honouring Aboriginal culture. Their dedication and spirit made the performance a memorable and proud moment for all
